Obituary of Eleanor J. McLane

Eleanor J. ''Ellie'' McLane, passed onto the Lord June 6, 2014. Born June 29, 1923 in Ashley PA, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Ellen (Owens) Williams. Eleanor was a 1941 graduate of Hanover High School and worked at McIntire, Magee and Brown in Wilkes Barre, PA as an optician assistant . As a young girl, she was an active member of Ashley Presbyterian Church. Eleanor met William J. ''Billy'' McLane, the love of her life in January 1945. They were married on August 16, 1947 and moved to Auburn and celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Eleanor was a long time member of Highland Golf Park, YMCA, Womens Republican Club, Board of Elections and First Presbyterian church and choir. She enjoyed golfing, baking, and shows at the Merry Go Round Theatre. A mothers and grandmothers love is endless and ''neen'', as her grandchildren called her, gave her heart and soul to her family. She was always there to enjoy their ball games, dance recitals, scouts, graduations and weddings. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother she will be dearly missed. Eleanor is survived by her daughter Juneanne Miller and her husband James P. of Auburn, grandchildren, James W. (Sara) Miller, Michael McLane Miller, Megan J. Miller, great grandchildren, Liam J. and Ella Jane Miller, numerous nieces and nephews, and by her little dog ''Bear''. She was predeceased by her husband William J. ''Billy'' McLane on December 25, 2011 and by brothers Pvt. Hugh Williams, Jr., who was buried in Normandy, France in 1944, Melvin, Homer and John O. Williams , a sister Audrey Evans and a brother in law George G. McLane. A visitation hour will be held Thursday, June 12 from 10-11 am at First Presbyterian Church 112 south St., Auburn followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc. 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Rd., Mendon, NY 14506. Langham Funeral Home is handling arrangements. She will be remembered as being loving, funny, strong willed, dedicated, a good friend and most of all, a person that enjoyed life.
