John David Hammond, Jr. "Dave"

John David “Dave” Hammond, Jr.,  81, of Sennett, New York, passed away peacefully at Auburn Community Hospital on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Born in Auburn, New York, he was the son of the late Dr. John D. Hammond and Daphne (Bell) Hammond, Sr. Dave attended Auburn High School and Kimball Union Academy before continuing his education at Union College. He later graduated from Ithaca College, earning his Bachelors Degree in Business and Finance which prepared him for a distinguished career in banking.  

Dave served his community with dedication, holding board positions at The Neighborhood House and Planned Parenthood. Professionally, he was Executive Vice President at Chase Manhattan Bank and Beacon Federal Bank, both in Syracuse, New York, where he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his leadership and integrity.

An avid outdoorsman, Dave cherished his time boating on Owasco Lake, often enjoying an occasional fishing trip with friends. He also delighted in a round of golf and cross-country skiing during the winter months. Family vacations were a treasured tradition, with annual trips to Maine and Jekyll Island holding special memories for all. Dave had a particular fondness for his “toys”,  boats, cars, and tractors among them,  which reflected his lifelong enthusiasm for hands-on projects and adventure.

Known for his warm disposition, Dave always took care of those he loved most. His wonderful sense of humor brought laughter to every gathering, and his steady presence was a source of comfort and strength to family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Frederica (Davis) Hammond; daughter, Julia Hammond; his siblings, Becky Backer and Bobby Hammond; two grandchildren, Muriel and Rory Allen; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends and colleagues.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Lissa Hammond.
