John Langham Obituary

John A. Langham, 85, of Fleming, NY, passed away peacefully at Finger Lakes Center for Living on Saturday, February 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Auburn, the only son of the late Ross Meredith and Barbara (Brayer) Langham. He was a graduate of East High School and enlisted in the Army Reserves, serving his country with resilience and pride.

A dedicated third generation funeral director for more than 40 years, John gave his life’s work to serving families with dignity, compassion, and respect. Known for his gentle personality and professional consideration, he embodied the true meaning of service, guiding others through their most difficult times with quiet strength and unwavering kindness.

Even when faced with physical challenges of his own, John met each day with determination and perseverance. He was a true gentleman, admired by colleagues, cherished by friends, and deeply respected in the community he so faithfully served. His quiet strength and steady presence meant more to his family than words can express.

Beyond his professional life, John will be remembered for his devotion to family and community involvement. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with care, understanding, and grace.

He found his greatest peace on the waters of Owasco Lake, where boating brought him both joy and a sense of freedom. He also cherished time spent in Naples, Florida, enjoying the sunshine, warm breezes, and the slower pace of life. Whether north or south, John valued being near the water and the people he loved.

John enjoyed a good game of cards, especially Rummy, and he took quiet pride in choosing a winning horse now and then. These simple pleasures brought him happiness and many shared laughs with family and friends.

Closer to home, you could often find Jean and John enjoying a date night at one of their favorite Auburn restaurants, sharing a meal and conversation. In his daily routine, John treasured simple traditions including his regular lunch break at Webster’s counter, where he felt right at home among familiar faces.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean Murray Langham, and his son, David Langham.

He is survived by his twin daughters, Barbie Herbert and her husband Tom, and their children, Tommy (Christina) and Madelyn;  Beth Burgmaster and her children, Danielle (Craig), Jack, Alex, and Ross. He is also survived by his great-grandsons, Colby and Bryce Mietz, and his first cousin, Nancy Langham.

Calling hours will be held at St. Alphonsus Church on Thursday, February 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:15 p.m. A private family burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery where John will be laid to rest beside his loving wife and son.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his devoted caregivers for the comfort, dignity and loving attention they provided over the past several years.  We are also deeply grateful for the wonderful staff at Finger Lakes Center for Living for their compassionate care and kindness.

In keeping with John’s compassionate spirit, the family respectfully requests the omission of flowers.  Instead, they invite you to celebrate his life by extending kindness, offering support, or helping someone in need.  Should you choose to donate in his memory, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Finger Lakes Center For Living or the Matthew House.  Please visit www.Langhamfuneralhomellc.com to share a memory or leave a condolence.
