Norman C. Burpee

Norman C. Burpee, 67, of Union Springs, NY, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026. Born in Auburn, NY, he was the son of the late Donald and Joyce Burpee.

Norman was an attendee and graduate of Union Springs Academy. Seeking to further his education, he traveled out west to attend Pacific Union College in Northern California where he studied agriculture. Following college, he eventually settled down next to his parent’s property outside Union Springs, NY where he became an in-home caretaker for the developmentally disabled. He also worked as a carrier/distributor for The Post Standard and The Citizen newspaper publishers. As a side business and hobby, Norman constructed ponds on his property and stocked them with fish so that friends, family, and others could enjoy swimming and fishing. Also, Norman grew a variety of produce on his property that he would sell at his farm stand and local farmers markets.

In addition to fishing and gardening, Norman enjoyed sailing, trains, chocolate, going to the movies, driving around looking at Christmas decorations, Empire Farm Days, his pets, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his two sons, Eric (Jennifer W.) and Joshua (Jennifer L.) Burpee; two brothers, Roland and Timothy Burpee, and a sister, Lauraetta Burpee; 3 grandchildren, Alexandra, Olivia, and Landon Burpee; and many nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Joyce, as well as his sister, Yvonne Burpee.

A celebration of life/memorial service are incomplete and will be held at a future date and time.
