Jean S. Roberts, RN, of 7 Throop Avenue, Auburn, passed away on June 15, 2019 at The Commons on St Anthony. She was born in Syracuse to Carl and Edwina (Bantle) Schenkenberger in 1934 in Syracuse. Jean graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse and earned her RN at Cayuga County Community College. She loved nursing and caring for others with equal parts heart and grit. She was so determined to become a nurse that before earning her RN, she worked nights, studied for her LPN license by day, and kept her family fed and in clean clothes. Later, she worked at Auburn Community Hospital, Cayuga County Nursing Home, and at the end of her career at BOCES, teaching both nursing and life skills to those studying to become nurses aids. With her husband, David, for many years she operated a square dance fashion store, a business that allowed her to travel the Northeast making friends through square dancing. Her surviving family members include David, her husband of 64 years; her children John (Laurelyn) Roberts; Karen (Alan) Betz; Ellen (Michael) Ferro; The grandchildren she loved to spoil are Margot (Chris) Stotler, Michael D Ferro, Vincent Ferro, Samuel Ferro, and Katherine Betz. She is predeceased by her brother Carl and is survived by her sister Barbara Kinney. Jean was a communicant of St. Peter & John Episcopal Church. Funeral services are Monday at 10:30am at the funeral home followed by burial in Fort Hill Cemetery.
