Obituary of Charlotte C. Ross

Please share a memory of Charlotte to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charlotte C. Ross, 94, of 308 Bluefield Manor, Auburn, NY died at Auburn Community Hospital on June 8, 2016 following a long illness. She was born in Auburn on July 26, 1921 as Charlotte Winifred Chapin, the daughter of Raymond Arthur and Esther Nellie Rice Chapin. Her younger brother, Donald Roger Chapin, predeceased her in 1983. Charlotte graduated from Auburn High School, class of 1939, and the Auburn Business School. She worked at the Columbian Rope Company, spent many years as Bookkeeper for Doan's Market on Mary Street and worked in the Business Offices of the Auburn Board of Education and Auburn Community College. On July 26, 1944 she married James F Ross, the love of her life, and followed him to various military assignments in Florida and Colorado. At the War's end they returned to Auburn and raised a family of three, a daughter Sharon and twin sons, Donald and Ronald. Charlotte and Jim were active members of the First Baptist Church, the Owasco Yacht Club, the Highland Park Golf Course and the Dutch Hollow Country Club. They played a lot of golf, laughed often and were a good team traveling through life together. Upon her beloved husband's death in 1984 Charlotte continued the retirement life they'd begun in a new home in Deltona, Florida. Summers were spent in Auburn, winters in Florida. Life was not easy but with the support of family and friends, and her own positive willpower, she continued this lifestyle for 25 years! In 2006 she returned to the Auburn area to live at Bluefield Manor among all the neighbors, church members, friends and even former classmates that she'd known years ago! Charlotte's strength throughout life came from the firm belief that God was always on her side, that a sense of humor helps and that it cost nothing to be nice. Over the years there were always friends, good friends, of all ages in her life. She did the neighborly things: a pie because someone was special, a casserole for the ill, flowers for those who did not have a garden or needed cheering up, visits to the elderly, the inclusion in our meals and celebrations of those who were alone, trips to several elderly ladies to wash their curtains and clean...the list continues. She was a friend, a very good one, as well as a parent. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Leslie M. Loysen of Barnegat, NJ, a son and his wife, Ronald and Margaret Ross of Ithaca and Auburn, NY and another son with his fiancée, Donald Ross and Carmella Socci, of Auburn. Grandchildren include David Loysen of Troy, NY, Jennifer Loysen of New Jersey, Jessica and husband John Friedel of Chapin, SC, Jeannette Ross DeChick of Auburn, Jan Meghan and her husband Mark Baraczek of Charleston, SC and, locally, Joan Ross and Jon Ross. Charlotte also has five Great Grandchildren. Graveside services for family will be held in Soule Cemetery on Friday, June 10. Friends are invited to join the family at a small Memorial Reception in the Library of Bluefield Manor on Friday from 11:30 am to 1pm . Memories and stories will help celebrate the life of this kind and loving friend. Any memorial gifts may be made to the Bluefield Tribute Fund to help other Seniors through hard times.
