Grandma,
My heart is broken. You were such a significant part of my life and I was blessed to have you as my Grandma. You always encouraged me, always gave me great life advice through my many hard times - some of which I kick my butt for not listening to like the "you should have many boyfriends", lol. You're snarky little comments on certain issues in the news will be missed - and then our laugh fests after. Sitting and watching animal planet, or law and order or golden girls. i have a million and one memories that I will forever cherish in my heart with you where you will love forever. Saying I love you and you'll forever be missed doesn't even begin to express how I'm truly feeling. I love you Grandma. Until we meet again...

Dear Christopher-&-Lynn, Peter-&-Carol, Stephen-&-Nihoko, Cynthia, Patricia-&-Andrew, Casimir-&-Tiffany, Family and Friends:
I was saddened to learn of the death of Ethel on June 12 2017. Please accept my deepest sympathy at your loss. It is sad to lose a loved one in death at any age, but hopefully at 86 years of age, it can be said of Ethel what was said of Isaac at Genesis 25:39 "she died old and satisfied with days," having seen her children into the third and fourth generations.
May I share some verses from the Bible that bring continuing comfort when we suffer the loss of a loved one?
First, it was never our Creator's purpose that anyone should die, ever! When He put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, they had the prospect of endless life, in ageless bodies, in perfect health, on a perfect Earth (Genesis 1:28). Adam and Eve could have passed that life on to us, but they sinned and lost everything for themselves ... and us. (Romans 5:12)
Next, it comforted me and softened my feelings toward our Creator, Jehovah God, to learn that it is Satan who causes imperfection, aging, sicknesses like cancer, and death -- not God (Hebrews 2:14).
Finally, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, are our guarantees that this Earth will yet be a peaceful, global paradise and that Ethel will be resurrected to enjoy it. Remember Jesus' words at John 5:28-29a and John 11:25: "I am the resurrection and the life," and "all those in the memorial tombs ... will be resurrected." Until then Ethel, Rest In Peace.
May you have comfort and peace from these promises until the day when you can be reunited with a young (Job 33:25) and healthy (Isaiah 33:24) Ethel.
With deepest sympathy and genuine respect,
Harolyne Grant

Hailey and I send our thoughts and prayers. Ethel was such a memorable part of Hailey's younger years, always including us in holiday goodies -especially angel kisses and baklava. I loved Ethel's spunk and independence, especially her don't care what others think attitude. She was truly my kind of special person and she will be missed. Thanks to Patty and family for allowing us to have been a part of so many milestone moments and special times (and especially for the baklava!)
Xoxo,
Melanie & Hailey birken
