Obituary of Linda J. Atkins
Linda J. Atkins, 66, of Auburn, passed away peacefully at Upstate Medical Center on September 30, 2017.
Linda, born on May 25, 1951, at Auburn Memorial Hospital, was the daughter of the late Richard and Ruth Bannon Atkins.She was a graduate of Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School and ACC. Linda worked 30 years for Traveler's Insurance in Syracuse. After that she had part time jobs at Holy Family Rectory and Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES. Linda was a conscientious volunteer at Calvary Food Pantry and Holy Family Church where she helped with the children's liturgy. Volunteering gave her a sense of community and satisfaction.
Linda was tiny but had a big effect on many people's lives with her kindness and generosity. She always enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays since she loved to give gifts. Linda was the "family memory" reminding people of events they couldn't believe they had forgotten. She also shared her wit and wise suggestions with people who knew her well. Throughout the years Linda was an avid collector of Charlotte Bye and Goebel figurines. She always stayed connected on Facebook making supportive comments and sharing her sense of humor.
Linda is survived by her sister Susan and brother-in-law David Jerva of Sennett. "Auntie L." Is also survived by her niece Laurie Walter of Auburn, nephews Brian Jerva and his wife Anita of West Chester, PA, and Michael Jerva and his wife Nicole Tortorici of Brooklyn,NY; great nephew Alec Kovalczik and great nieces Tessa Kovalczik and Mia Jerva.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 7 at Langham Funeral Home, 75 East Genesee St. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
