Obituary of Joan Ellen Costello

Joan E. Costello of Beach Avenue died November 2, 2017 while at hospice care at Matthew House in Auburn N.Y. Joan was born in Auburn on October 6, 1961 to former Auburn Police Chief John T and Nan (Cuddy) Costello who predeceased her in 2003 and 2006 respectively.

She was a graduate of Auburn High and the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, receiving her degree in 1984. Joan was employed by Medent for the past 17 years and at Wegmans for the past decade.

Despite working two jobs for a decade, Joan made the very best out of her short time here on earth. She befriended all who wanted or needed friendship. She was a caregiver to her parents, her siblings and countless friends. She never wanted to be, nor ever was, a burden to anyone. Ever.

She was a great role model for others.  She did a good job of having the world love her for what she was - a selfless, giving, beautiful soul.  

Joan is survived by 8 siblings, Anne (Richard) Tomlin, Christine Chapman, Teresa Murphy, Mary Costello, John ( Cindy) Costello,Joseph (Jan) Costello, Lisa (Mark) Bachman and Nancy Costello.

In addition, she is survived by her Aunts and Uncles, Jim And Laila Cuddy, Clara Rusin and Pauline Costello, Bob and Ellen Loretan and Mary and Simon St. Laurent. She is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews and 13 grand nieces and nephews and countless cousins.

Calling hours will be November 6 at Holy Family Church, North St., Auburn, from 4-7 pm . A mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Family November 7 at 10am.

In lieu of flowers Joan has asked that donations be made to the hospice at Matthew House, the Merry-Go-Round Theater or the Finger Lakes SPCA.
