Mabel Maria Achramowicz ,"Bunny",of Upland, CA, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016. A native of Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Eleanor Menchini. Her father was one of the original partners of the popular men's store, Bonardi's, also of Worcester. Almost always referred to as "Bunny" by loving friends and family members, it was a lifelong nick-name that she acquired from an Aunt of the same name. Born in Worcester, MA on June 7th, 1926, Bunny attended grammar school, junior high and high school in Worcester. She then attended and graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1948 with a B.A. degree in the Liberal Arts. It's important to note that she was one of the first Italian-Americans to graduate from that academic institution. Upon graduation she joined the advertising department of The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and she always considered advertising to be one of the best businesses in the world. She loved to write and could always bring any story to life, and many of her friends suggested on occasion that she should take up writing as a profession. Bunny met and married her late husband, Matthew J. Achramowicz, also of Worcester, in June of 1950. The Korean War called her husband to "active duty" status in the Air Force and spent the next two winters assigned in Buloxi, MS and then Anchorage, AK. In 1960 he took a position in Central New York with the General Electric Company and then transferred once again with GE to Southern California in 1973. Upon arriving in Southern California Bunny started a career in the Men's Department of The May Co., retiring with 20 years of service in 1993. After retiring from the May Co, Bunny spent a number of years as a volunteer and then an employee of the City of Upland. She attended St. Anthony's Catholic Parish in Upland and traveled frequently to visit family and friends. Auburn is where she considered to be her home and spent every Fall in Auburn with her daughter and son-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, younger sister and brother; and, she leaves behind sons John and James of Upland, CA, her daughter, Jean Leeson and son-in-law, Edward, of Auburn, NY, and son Joel and his wife, Carole, and three grandchildren, Robert, Matthew and Alex of Alameda, CA. Calling hours will be Tuesday October 25 from 4-6pm at Langham Funeral Home, 75 E. Genesee St., Auburn, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am at Holy Family Church with burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming, NY.
