Obituary of Donald James Weeks

It is with a very heavy heart that the family of Donald James Weeks, 98, of Fleming, NY shares his passing. Don passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. He was born in Auburn, NY the son of the late Reginald and Mary (Osborne) Weeks and a graduate of Auburn High School. He grew up as a dairy farmer's son and could grow anything, especially with his fertilizing hand and his green thumb.

An outstanding entrepreneur, Don was co-owner of Hares & Weeks where he was a master electrician as well as specializing in plumbing and heating. He loved his family and valued his time spent with them. Whether Don had a lesson to share or some good sound advice, he always shared it with love and support.

He loved to stay physically active whether it be by supporting his first wife's Betty's School of the Dance venture by making the best dance show props, or fixing things around the house. He had a love for tractors, old and new, and refurbishing them. He enjoyed boating and skiing on Owasco Lake and a refreshing clean dip in the lake after a long hard day of work. Don loved a good whiskey sour, gardening and his time in Florida playing shuffleboard in the sun. He was a longtime member of the Masons and was a volunteer firefighter for the Fleming Fire Department for 50 years.

Surviving are his two daughters, Cindy Porter of NH, and Nancy Sienkiewicz and Edward Alberts also of NH; a sister Barbara Deacon of Auburn and his beloved dog Coco. he was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Betty Jane Weeks, and his second wife Betty Lou Cora Weeks in February 2024.

A warm heartfelt thank you to Leslie and Bob Baxter, Cindy Church, Sharon Czornig, Jackie Church and Margaret Estrade and many attentive others for their love, outstanding care and dedication given to both Don and Betty over the years. Additionally, many thanks to the incredible and professional Fleming Fire Department for always being there when needed.
